Kiki’s History

Born Birkline’s Kingston Waggoner, he was raised at The Kennel Birkline and adopted out to a young woman in her early twenties. There were competing stories from the woman and her mother regarding why the dog was being returned and the only thing they agreed upon is that “nothing is wrong with Kingston, she/I just can’t keep him anymore”.

He’s an active boy and it took him some time to get him to slow down enough to cuddle and let me check him out. As I massaged his ears, it quickly became clear that either a lapse of mental health or a lack of financial means is what brought this young man back to us. To my horror, my fingers detected foreign bodies in the seams of his ears and then I was poked by one of the stitches our vet had placed in his ears twelve months prior. At the earliest opening for surgery, Kingston went in for a procedure, in which our veterinary team removed fourteen stitches that had been embedded in the edges of his ears for a full year following his ear cropping. While I am furious with his treatment (FYI, my research cleared the former vet of wrong-doing, instead placing the blame on good old-fashioned intentional owner negligence), I’m focusing on his healing and on finding the perfect forever home for him. Further details available upon request to serious inquiries.

Kiki’s Personality:

Kingston is a fairly typical Doberman. His personality is persistently Velcro with a humorously vocal sense of entitlement common to most Dobermans. He does not wander too far even off leash in the country, except to run to our milking cow to give her, too, kisses each day. They both have filed several formal requests to be allowed full access to one another, but Sophia is not polled and we’re concerned for Kiki’s safety. He has a ton of adolescent energy and will need top speed exercise several times each week or daily for best results.

Currently, Kingston still needs the good influence of a crate when unattended, but as he grows out of his adolescence, he will be able to be left with unlimited access to his home. He likes to play ball but doesn’t always bring it back, and leaps like a deer when he’s joyful.

Kingston is reported to be good with other dogs. So far, he has been good with large and small dogs. He has a special affection for cows and [pseudo] chases cats and chickens (half-heartedly with a rocking-horse-gait, a clear indication he wants to socialize or play with them rather than harm them) stopping short of contact, despite EASILY being able to catch them.
