Solomon’s History:

Born Birkline’s Solomon Atkins, he was raised at The Kennel Birkline and adopted out to a couple who loved him very much and did well by him. They raised him alongside their adult male Doberman. As Solomon came into maturity, the two males began to disagree with one another at times. They neutered him then, in attempts to de-escalate the rift in the relationship, but over time, the two boys decided to abandon any attempts at friendship and to protect the older dog, they returned Solomon.

Solomon is well potty trained and does not intentionally lose control in the home. He does not seem to mark territory at all and urinates with all four feet on the ground as a habit. He is great off-leash on our property, but we do not recommend that Solomon be left unattended with other male dogs or allowed to go to a dog park, given his history of misunderstandings with another male. While he did not react negatively when our pair of Rat Terriers dug under the fence and approached us as we were walking, due to the reports of his fights with the other male Doberman, we do not suggest he be exposed to other males.

Solomon will do best in a family with no other pets and with land for Solomon to exercise on. It would be best if that land were fenced by dog-proof fencing, but Solomon is very obedient off-leash and has been called back easily from our own property line (and it is NOT dog=proof fenced), so we are flexible on this aspect. He will need dog-free space to exercise. He loves walks around the property and tries to play with our milking cow (but she has horns, so they do not get to play).

Solomon’s Personality:

Solomon is a fairly typical Doberman. His personality is affectionate and persistently Velcro with a humorously vocal sense of entitlement common to most Dobermans. He grumbles at times when he feels that the person in his direct vicinity should give him attention. It’s quite adorable. He gently will paw a human, too, for love.

He has a sentry inside him and raises alarms when strangers arrive in his area, though he is easy to calm. He loves people, however, and once he determines that a person is okay to be in his space (a matter of seconds), he is wiggly and sweet.
